Shigeru "Go" Kawasaki
Go is a journalist with Asahi Shimbun in Japan, a leading Japanese daily news organization, and served as a Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University in 2000.  While there, he traveled to Eugene to meet Yoko, whom his wife had interviewed in Tokyo in the 1980s.  On the occasion of the Celebration of Life, Go traveled even farther, coming all the way from Tokyo.  As one of the few who were able to make that journey, he very kindly agreed to read a tribute written by Teiji Hosoda, a Japanese businessman and UO alumnus who had met Yoko at UO in 1964 and stayed close to her throughout her life.  Much of the tribute was unfortunately not captured on video, but the text can be viewed here.

Steve Kohl

Steve is Associate Professor Emeritus of Japanese at UO and knew Yoko for 40 years as colleague and close friend.  For many years he brought her firewood that he had cut from fallen trees on his forested acreage.  As Tom Mills said in his introduction of Steve, both his friendship and his firewood kept Yoko warm.
